Design your own saddle pads!! Mattes beautiful saddle pads come in a huge variety, and you even get to choose your own colours. You can even customise the Mattes ear bonnets to match and completely personalise your look!
Mattes use a high quality, heavy duty twill fabric in their saddle pads. The inner layers are composed of a double laminate of Polyflex (deep needled polyester felt) and polyester wadding, which is completely permeable, allowing air to flow through the pad to the skin of the horse. There is absolutely no foam, neoprene or gel to hinder air flow or temperature regulation. This design results in a quilt that is firm enough to keep its shape, even after many washes. It will not develop lumps or become misshapen. Mattes saddle pads are also anatomically correct, with a high cut ensuring no pressure in the wither area.
Mattes now also offer a Velvet fabric instead of the regular quilt. This is made specifically to Mattes high standards from a lustrous polyester fibre to give the material the beautiful glossy velvet look (see image 3 above). It is very light yet washes well and is more durable than normal velvet. It can be machine washed and tumble dried just like all Mattes products. The velvet saddle pads also have a Polyflex layer to ensure they maintain their shape, and the backing is a polyester velour which prevents friction and chafing. There is a small surcharge for this velvet fabric, detailed in the drop down menu below.
Mattes Sheepskin is specifically selected to be extremely dense and resilient. The open structure allows air to flow between the individual fibres to equalise temperature, making it ideal for summer or winter riding. It can also absorb up to 8 times its wool weight in moisture before it feels wet, and the resilience of the wool makes it ideal for pressure distribution. The upright woollen fibres can move against each other, eliminating friction and chafing whilst allowing muscle development. The Spinefree design prevents any pressure along the spine - even if you order the full sheepskin under panels, there is a clear channel along the spine. There is an additional cost for sheepskin, but we think it's very worthwhile! Please see the 'Sheepskin options' drop down menu below for details of what is available and the cost involved.
Mattes also make a correction pocket system which can be integrated into all custom Mattes saddle pads. This comprises either one or two pockets on each side of the pad where the panels of the saddle sit. Mattes then supply 3 Polyflex shims per pocket, to enable you to adjust the saddle to your horses back. This is ideal for altering saddle fit to compensate for changes in the shape of the horse - whether these are due to seasonal fluctuations, the growth of young horses, increasing levels of work and fitness or even age related changes. It can also be used for one-sided horses or as a variable rear or front riser. Please contact us directly for information and prices if you would like to integrate a correction system into your custom Mattes pad.
Please use the drop down menus below to customise your ultimate saddle pad. Start by selecting the size, shape and style you require. The differences between the square and eurofit pads can be seen in image 4 above. Then choose between quilt and velvet, and how much sheepskin you'd like - if any.
Then you get to play with your colours, you'll need to select colours for the quilt or velvet, the sheepskin if you want it, and then the binding on the edge and up to 3 pipings inside that! Finally decide on whether to embroider your saddle pad or not. You can add the Mattes logo in your choice of colour at no extra charge - please see image 3 above for a good example of the embroidered logo. Alternatively Mattes will custom embroider anything for you - a name, a logo, your competitor number etc. There is an additional charge for all custom embroidery, please contact us for a quote.
